| As a
professional craftsman qualified by experience and training to engage in fire damage
restoration, I accept a special responsibility to deal competently and fairly with
homeowner and insurance company alike.
As a member of
the National Institute of Disaster Restoration Division of ASCR International, I promise
to uphold the following Code of Ethics:
I will prepare
my estimate with the intention of charging a fair price for a good job.
I will not
knowingly prepare an estimate for more or less than the restoration required without so
stating in my estimate.
I will enter
into no agreement with property owner, insurance adjuster, or subcontractor to give or
receive rebates or compensation not specified in my estimate.
I will not
discuss my price with a competitive bidder while bidding is open.
I will not
enter into any secret prior agreement to do more work for the same price, nor will I
charge a lesser rate for the work done than the rate quoted in my estimate.
I will keep
abreast of new research and developments in fire, water, vandalism and related damage
restoration so as to give my customers the benefit of the most effective techniques
available.
I
will keep adequate job records and administer my company's affairs in accordance with
accepted business and accounting procedures.
My
estimate and opinions will reflect my best professional judgment and nothing else. |
The
CR will be familiar with, and adhere to, the contract and licensing requirements of the
locality in which a project is performed. Labor and
material contracts will be based on the actual costs incurred or in accordance with a
previously agreed-upon rate schedule. Backup data will be provided if requested by the
party responsible for payment.
CRs will
conduct their professional affairs in accordance with accepted standards of good business
practice, and will not engage in actions which tend to discredit or undermine the status
and respect of the Certified Restorer designation.
Any estimate
not prepared on the basis of direct inspection will be clearly marked as to the source of
information and contain an introductory phrase indicating that the estimate was not based
on direct inspection of the site.
It is
unethical to submit an estimate based on the format of another firm unless approval of the
originating firm is obtained and it is prominently credited in the introductory section of
the estimate.
Estimates
prepared after the work has been performed by another firm will be prominently marked as
being prepared after the completion of work and not based on an inspection of actual site
conditions.
I will keep
abreast of new research and developments in fire, water, vandalism and related damage
restoration so as to give my customers the benefit of the most effective techniques
available.
Estimate
and contract provisions will be performed fully and accurately.
Personal
information regarding clients is kept confidential.
Making
disparaging remarks about competitors is unprofessional conduct.
Mistakes,
when made, should be frankly acknowledged. |
